"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke..."

Welcome

Remember when Bridge used to be fun?

Welcome to Card-Table Talk. Here you will find bits and pieces relating to the lighter side of the great game of Bridge.

The objective is to share some of the things that the author's eyes have seen and his ears have heard over the years of his enthusiastic (some say obsessive) participation at the card-table.

If you feel moved to contribute, criticize, or congratulate, then please send an email. I'd be delighted to hear from you!

Talk

Probably the best part of cardtabletalk.com.

Memorable scenes from real on-line Bridge tables.

These are some of the moments that make it all worthwhile.

(Names changed to protect the guilty.)

Films

Eleven films that have some link to Bridge, however tenuous. Plus a couple of sad disappointments.

Each film reviewed and rated as to Bridge content.

A strange idea? Not as strange as some others, like The Bridge on the Philately...

Play

Part of an actual play script where a contract is bid in a bizarre but believable manner.

What cards might they have held? Have fun trying to work out a plausible answer.

Cheating

How cheating is done in Internet Bridge games, how to spot it, and what to do if you suspect.

Plus some real games where I was taken for a ride.

Curiosities

Seven of the weirdest things in Bridge are listed here including my personal favourite: bidding at the 8 level ?!

Tips

A collection of okbridge tips of mine to prolong your playing pleasure. Including how to stay awake (oh dear).

Tricks

Why should you give the filthy opponents an easy time?
Here are things I've done that confused and dismayed the other side and, even better, got them annoyed with each other. (Nothing illegal or unethical of course!)

Sayings

Wisecracks, advice, sound-bites - all relating to Bridge.

Marathon

What would it be like to play Bridge for 24 hours nonstop?

Would you go mad?

How would your scores go?

In the interests of science I made the attempt on 27th December 2005, and you can read a full report here.

Cards

Here you'll find trivia about playing cards in folk-lore, history and song. The 9, for example.

The goal is to provide something about each card in the pack, however I expect this will take some time for unsung heroes such as the
4. Suggestions for missing cards are most welcome.

Other

This page is for miscellaneous items as they come along. The first piece is about the fictitious card game Go Johnny Go Go Go Go! which was invented by the terrifying comedy group The League of Gentlemen for one of their famous sketches.

About

The why, what and how of this site.

Will

The Author, Montreux, Switzerland, July 2004

Exiled from his native land for Bridge crimes too awful to relate.
